BLACK History VS History

History is typically defined as a study of the past. It is something that consistently changes due to our evolving world. One thing has remained the same since 1976 and that is the celebration of our african american leaders who paved the way for us. Another thing that remains is the constant dispute of why Black History is celebrated the shortest month of the year. There are many views on this subject but still no solution.

I think that black history and history should be taught altogether. I feel as though there is still too much seperation of teaching in schools comprised of both black history and history. Why we cannot let the past be history as it is defined is my main issue. I feel that teaching and educating in seperation creates the current and ongoing bitterness of our african history. It is essential for  youth to know history in general. The schools are teaching the same african american leaders year after year, so what is 28 days a year really doing for our community?

Ultimately, I feel that we should be educating ourselves and our youth on a daily basis of our history, because unfortunately, teachers just can and will not do it. Children need to know another leader besides Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, because there are so many others unrecognized in our media. It's time for black history to come together with history. Let's unite, step up, and have peace on earth :)

Black History Fact: Jan E. Matzeliger (1852-1889) invented the very first shoe making machine. It made 700 pairs in a 10 hour work day.

*This blog is dedicated to all the strong black leaders who go unknown and unheard then and now...
