So, lately I've been hearing a lot of talk about marriage. Marriage used to be a thing that was almost mandatory. It was the finishing touch of love with two people unionizing. A sacred bond that could never be broken. Oh how times have changed...
Ever heard people say "we were fine until we got married" or "everything was cool until we added the labels" ? Yea me too. I'm sure it's one of those psychological things, but it sure does seem to work for most. Marriage doesn't seem to be a big deal anymore as it used to be in the past generations. I personally still believe in the traditional family values and would love to get married and then have children. On the contrary, I do not have anything against the ones who choose not to take that route, because I can fully understand why.
I do not believe that everyone is meant to get married, nor do I believe that every woman should have children. Everyone has a different route to take and I applaud the ones who know they have to steer in a different direction, rather than following someone else's tracks and end up totaled. I see couples who have been together ten plus years, still going strong, and are content just being with each other without adding the extra step of getting married. I feel as long as both partners are fine with the decision to be or not to be married is all that matters. I've seen couples have babies first, then get married, and it still works in their favor. Happiness does not come from marriage. It comes from love. People feel that if they marry someone, the happiness will follow. Bad bad bad! I've heard many stories about arranged marriage, but I feel that we should all have the option to choose to be with whoever makes us happy.
So to sum it all up, in my opinion, marriage is not overrated. It is just rated too much. I say do what makes you happy. If you don't need marriage to validate your love for someone, then good for you. Whatever floats your boat. If you are happy, then your loved ones should be happy for you. Be merry and be happy :)
